Chris Robinson, Owner and Executive Producer at Double Black Diamond Productions has built the company around his life long passion for competitive skiing and an entrepreneurial career that began in the ski industry nearly 40 years ago.
Over the years Robinson has been sought after for his expertise in many areas related to sport and production.
Contracted by Olympic Broadcasting Services in 2006 (Torino OWG; Production Manager, Snowboarding) and 2010 (Vancouver Paralympic Games; Assistant Producer / Director, Alpine Skiing), Robinson joined OBS again in PyeongChang for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games as Production Manager, Cross Country Skiing.
In 2009 he co-founded World Snowsports Event Group, a not-for-profit event management company in Collingwood, Ontario, with the objective of bringing World Cup skiing and snowboarding to Collingwood and the Blue Mountains region. Since 2010, Robinson has successfully organized and managed 7 FIS World Cups in Ski Cross and Snowboardcross including the Audi FIS Ski Cross World Cup in January 2019. With each event DBD also served as Host Broadcaster producing the television coverage and world feed.
As a former athlete and having worked in the areas of coaching, partnership sales & marketing, event and organizational management, Robinson is an established expert in many areas of snow sports. In addition to running a successful production business he serves as a consultant, committee member and Director with a number of ski industry organizations:
* International Ski Federation: Chairman of the Freestyle Committee from 1999 to 2016; now serves as Special Advisor to the Chairman of the newly formed Snowboard-Freestyle-Freeski Committee and FIS appointed expert in the area TV and Broadcast
* Canadian Snowsports Association: President and Chairman of the CSA Board of Directors from 2002 to 2023; the CSA is the umbrella organization for competitive skiing in Canada and holds Canada’s membership in the FIS (the CSA’s members include Alpine Canada, Freestyle Canada, Canada Snowboard, Cross Country Canada, Ski Jumping Canada, Nordic Combined Canada, Telemark Ski Canada, Speed Skiing Canada and the Canadian Association of Disabled Skiers)
* Canadian Ski Council: Board Member 2003 - 2020
* Ski Canada Foundation: Board Member since 2004
Over the years Robinson’s success in these many areas of sport and production has earned him a number of prestigious awards:
2002 - North American Ski Journalists Association; Harold S. Hirsch Award for Excellence in TV Broadcasting
2007 - Judith Kilbourne Founders Award; the Canadian Ski Council’s highest award for outstanding contribution to the sport of skiing and snowboarding in Canada
2009 - Canadian Ski Hall of Fame; inductee in the ‘sport builder’ category
2016 - International Ski Federation (FIS); FIS Journalists Award in recognition of outstanding contributions to the coverage of competitive skiing
